Just as a short reminder, we are now entering the last couple of days of voting for the Royal Canterlot Library’s second anniversary feature. Be sure to visit the thread on our FIMFiction group to cast your vote! Currently, stories by previously featured authors Cold in Gardez, Estee, GhostOfHeraclitus, Inquistor M, Kegisak, KitsuneRisu, Skywriter, The Descendant, and xjuggernaughtx are up for consideration, and we have a pretty close race developing, so your vote could make the difference!

Upcoming second anniversary — Now accepting nominations!

As it so happens, we are quickly coming up on the second anniversary of the Royal Canterlot Library’s first interview. Yup — two years’ worth of interviews with some of this fandom’s best writers!

We thought we’d do something special to mark the occasion. So, in celebration of 2 years of RCL, we ask you, our readers: For our 2nd anniversary, who would you like to see featured a 2nd time?

For the next week and a half, we are accepting nominations for stories written by one of our previously featured authors, but one different than the story we featured. And what’s more, we’re letting you guys pick. That’s right — you’ll be able to vote for the story you’d like to see us feature for our second anniversary!

Just head over to this thread on our FIMFiction group for details on how to nominate and vote for stories. Voting will close October 4th, so get those nominations in soon!

Fillies and gentlecolts, please join us in extending a warm welcome to the newest member of the Royal Canterlot Library team: AugieDog! Over his time in the pony fandom, Augie has assembled an impressive bibliography (which includes a previous RCL feature!) and regular participants of the Writeoff Association will likely recognize him as Baal Bunny. And those are just some of his accomplishments in the pony fandom–he also writes and sells original fiction!

We’re all thrilled to have Augie on board. His tremendous experience is already shaping our upcoming features and is undoubtedly going to shape our reading list in the days to come.

Finding old features

As a quick administrative note, I’ve created an “Archives” page listing the Royal Canterlot Library’s features alphabetically by author, and provided a permanent link to it on the top navigation bar.  It’s a great way to see what sort of company spotlighted stories keep!

Another great resource worth pointing out is fanfic review blog City of Doors.  Griffin has undertaken the monumental task of collecting and linking reviews from every ponyfic review blog — including the RCL, and its curators — and compiled them into a huge master spreadsheet.  If you’re wondering if your MLP fanfic has gotten outside attention, that might just be the single most informative page on the Internet.

On to today’s feature!

Upcoming AMA — Now accepting questions!

AMA

Before we begin with our feature today, we have some news to announce: next week will be the first anniversary of the Royal Canterlot Library’s first interview.  That’s right — 52 weeks’ worth of interviews with some of the fandom’s best writers.

We thought we’d do something fun to mark the occasion.  So, to celebrate one year of asking brony authors questions about horsewords, we’re giving you the opportunity to turn the tables on us!

For the next week, we invite all of you to ask us anything (individually or as a group). We’ll compile your questions and answer them in a special post on our website on Friday, Oct. 10, which will take the place of our usual feature next week. And yes, you may ask us anything.* Who’s best pony? Which was our favorite interview? Which one of us is the cute one? Anything you like!

(* Do note that, in order to keep a positive tone and keep our focus on the fandom’s top stories, our answers won’t discuss details of failed nominations — but we’ll do our best to balance our mission with the full honesty of an AMA.)

Just post your question in this thread on our FIMFiction group within the next week, or post a comment down below. We look forward to answering your questions!

And now, back to our regularly scheduled interview …

One of our founding curators, Benman, has chosen to step back from the Library.  While he has expressed interest in continuing to contribute to the RCL, he will no longer be reading or evaluating stories for us.  We’re all grateful to Ben for his leadership in the early days of the project — he was truly the driving force behind the Library, and it speaks very well of him that he had the vision to assemble a team and design a process that has outlasted his direct influence.

We have extended an invitation to JohnPerry to join the team in his place, and we’re all thrilled to welcome John on board.  Over the course of his ponyfiction tenure, John has racked up an impressive bibliography, and has also garnered fame for his “JohnPerry Suffers The Featured Box” story reviews.  His keen eye and wit are already shaping our reading list and our upcoming features.

One of our curators, Vimbert, stepped down recently. Bradel has joined the team in his place.

Vimbert has been moving away from the fandom due to outside events, and we’ll miss him both as a colleague and as a friend. His influence will continue here for a while yet, since he had a hand in selecting many of the stories that are currently in our queue.

At the same time, we’re excited to have Bradel with us. He has the skill and experience to select excellent stories, and is an all-around excellent person. It won’t be long before you see his contributions in the Library.

Our first feature will go live later today, but first we’d like to extend a special word of gratitude to RBDash47, whose archiving of the Pony Fiction Vault was the impetus for this project.

The Vault featured 107 of the fandom’s top stories over its two-year lifetime; offered fascinating looks into the minds of their authors; and gave us all something to aspire to.  We are truly standing on the shoulders of giants in our work to continue that legacy.

Today, an interview with RBDash47 (consisting of both his own standard questions and those collected from readers) is going live as the Vault’s final post.  It’s worthwhile reading, and the Vaulted stories are all great as well (we decided from the beginning we would grandfather them in as honorary Library selections).
